Scale of Zebra fish (Xiphophorus helleri) flown aboard the NASA Space Shuttle. Fish scales grow from the small inner ring outward, the number of rings corresponding to the age of the fish. Measurements of widths between rings help to describe how the fish reacts to zero gravity.
